Sermon —— Vessels of honour 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; Chosen = selected by God Chosen by God, for such a Time as this Jesus said… You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you… Royal priesthood = You are a priest of God.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; Holy Nation = New nationality In Christ… You have a new identity 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. You are… means … We’re not trying to be — you are. 1 Pet 2:9 …. His own special people,… Special = unique Something that only God could produce. 1 Pet 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. This is who we are. I want to talk about living as a vessel of honour. 2 Timothy 2:19-21 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”—19
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. —-20 NLT says… …The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use.
Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.——21
Notice we can chose …
Note So there’s something that we can do… To staying clean in a dirty world. So the Apostle Paul says, 2 Tim 2:21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work
