Living Contact with God Lesson 4- 5
Jn 15:1-16 Our union with Jesus empowers us to produce spiritual fruit prayer fruit Jn 15:7 fruit of the spirit Gal 5-22-23 life of victory over sin and the flesh (Rom 8:2; 1 Jn 5:4) God calls every believer to abide in Him
Read: 1 Jn 2:3-6 ( NKJ ) Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. vs 4 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. vs 5 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. Jn 14:21-23 ( NKJ ) He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." vs 21 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?" vs 22 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. vs 23 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me. vs 24
abiding means living a lifestyle of obedience to the Word and Spirit of God. Then we can expect to do great things. Jn 14:12-15 Must live in the love of God. 1 Jn 4:16; Rom 5:5; Eph 5:1-2 Cultivate an awareness of the Holy Spirit within you the Holy Spirit came to live in you when you were born again. 1 Cor 3:16-17 ( NKJ ) Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? vs 16 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. vs 17 1 Cor 6:19; Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Jn 4:4 ( KJV ) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Col 1:27 ( NKJ ) To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 2Cor 13:5 ( amp ) Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected? Jesus said it is better to have the Holy Spirit within you than physically walking with Him. Jn 14:16-17 ( NKJ ) And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. vs 17 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. vs 18 Jn 16:7 (amp) However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. Holy Spirit transforms you as you focus on God’s Word. 2 Cor 3:17-18 Learn to practice His presence The bible speaks of two separate experiences with the Holy Spirit First – Holy Spirit entering your spirit when you become born again ( spirit within) Jn 3:5-6 ( NKJ ) Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. vs 6 Well of Living Water – every believer has this experience. Jn 4:10, 13-14 Jn 4:14 ( NKJ ) but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." Well is for personal life of victory It is the fruit of the Spirit. Gal 5:22-23; 2 Pet 1 These forces of the Spirit keep the believer free from the curse in this earth. Rom 8:2
First – Born of the Spirit = ( The Spirit within ) Second – Infilling ( Baptism ) of the Holy Spirit H.S. comes upon the believer to empower them to bless others. Jn 7:37-39 ( NKJ ) On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. vs 37 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." vs 38 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. vs 39 Jn 14:12 ( NKJ ) "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 1 Cor 12:1, 7-11 ( NKJ ) Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 1 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 7 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, vs 8 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, vs 9 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. vs 10 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. vs 11 God never intended for believers to just be personally blessed God intended that we would be blessed to be a blessing. Mk 16:17-18
Jesus wants all believers to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Lk 24:49 ( NKJ ) Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high." Acts 1:4-5, 8 ( NKJ ) And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; vs 4 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." vs 5 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." vs 8 Baptism of Holy Spirit is for all – Acts 2:38-39; Acts 8:14-17; Acts 19:1-6 Separate experience: first the new birth, second the baptism of the Holy Sprit. New birth and baptism of the Spirit at the same time. Acts 10:44-47 Value of praying in tongues: helps us pray perfect will of God Rom 8:26- 27 Pray out God’s plan for our lives 1 Cor 14:2 Build yourself up Jude vs 20 Prayer strengthens our spirit to overcome temptations, trials and tests. Lk 21:36; Mk 14:38 How to receive: The Holy Spirit is for all Believers Acts 2:38-39 The Holy Spirit is a gift from God. The Holy Spirit received by faith Scriptural to receive by the laying on of hands. Acts 8:14-17 Lk 11:9-13 ( NKJ )
"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. vs 9 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. vs 10 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? vs 11 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? vs 12 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" vs 13 Receive by faith (ask and then believe that you receive) Expect to be filled then speak in new language that the Holy Spirit gives you. Act 2:4 ( NKJ ) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
